Different people use different measuring units, which is harmless unless you're NASA, who lost a Mars probe due to a measuring unit mix-up. If your work involves calculations using different measuring units, you can turn to Frink to make it easier. This lightweight application is capable of converting between all measuring units, and it can also help you make various calculations. It looks simple on the surface, but there is a lot you can do with it, including mixing and matching units.

Frink is a Java-based application, which means that you can run it on any operating system that supports the runtime environment. You only need to download one .jar file and run it, without going through an installation process. The application is lightweight, and you won't feel any kind of impact even on older machines.

The utility comes with a text-based user interface, on which you have to type what units you want to convert or the calculations you wish to make. You can specify the source and target units in the lower region of the interface, in the "From" and "To" fields. Alternatively, you can type both the source and target in the same field, if you add "->" between them. Because two fields are not absolutely necessary, you can switch to a single line input method at any time.

The application lets you perform simple operations, like converting units or making mathematical calculations, but you can also prepare more advanced tasks, which can even involve operations with different measuring units. For example, you may add pounds to kilograms. What's more, Frink lets you switch to a programming mode, so you can prepare long and complex calculations, with different measuring units, and solve them in a single run.

You may need some time to look over the application's documentation and study all the commands. You can also look up various measuring units and quantities directly on the user interface. If you need to know a certain distance or density, you won't need to bring up your browser and Google it.

Regardless of what calculations you need to make, and with what measuring units, you will be able to finish in no time with Frink.

Pros

The application lets you work with any measuring units. It can convert units, but it can also perform operations with them.

Cons

You have to take your time to learn all the commands.
